Description
Artist-tutors: Guy Allott , Johanna Melvin and Archie Franks
Monday 10am to 5pm
During the course we immerse ourselves into all aspects of painting; learning about and practising different approaches to materials, methods and ideas. More often than not the teaching and learning about painting materials and techniques is relegated to the status of skills or craft, in fact the reality is where ideas meet materials unexpected things happen. Until exploration and making takes place within a visual medium, the range and possibilities of materials remain ‘quiet’ to the thinker as they contemplate their idea(s) within a different stream.
During the course we will cover materials of painting beginning with surfaces, from traditional canvas and wood panels to newer materials such as aluminium and linoleum, moving through a range of types of paint including oil, acrylic, watercolour and the mediums and additives available for each, both traditional and recent developments.
COVID 19 and LOCKDOWN: At present we anticipate, with the ongoing vaccination campaign and the gradual easing of lockdown regulations across the country, we will be able to run this course in studio as of September 2021. However should the government initiate another series of lockdowns we will, depending on the level of lockdown (as we have done during the academic year 2020-21), either run hybrid classes ie have a limited number of students in studio and the rest online or fully move the classes online until the lockdown stops. We use ZOOM as our online platform and have since the 13th of March 2020 developed a lot of experience in delivery of online classes. Should you have any questions with regards to any of the above please get in touch with the school.
