Course in brief:

The annual fee is £6200 per year1.

This 2 year course starts on 23rd September 2024 to 27th June 2026. The course comes with a studio that is accessible throughout the two year including the summer of 2025. The course provides abundant tutor contact time with teaching days from Monday to Wednesday in a student year group of no more than 16 students. Every two weeks during term time we have visiting artists giving talks and tutorials and every academic year we visit galleries and artist studio. At the end of the course group exhibition of the graduating year is held.

If you are applying for the The ESOP Advanced Painting Young Artists Scholarship 2024-26 please apply for the course as normal (see how to apply below) and then include a simple statement in your application expressing your interest in the scholarship (note the scholarship is open to artists between 20-30 years at the time of starting the course. )

Successful candidates will receive a full-time studio space2 within the ESOP studio complex in Wood Green, London.

We will select candidates based on artistic potential, energy, creativity, open-mindedness, dynamic commitment, as well as the quality of work.

The ethos of ESOP encourages a wide range of viewpoints, and we welcome applications from candidates looking to contribute to this diverse and polysemous micro-culture. Applicants who are short listed will be expected to demonstrate their willingness and preparedness to actively participate in the collective endeavours of this innovative and unique painting course.

How to apply

  1. Send Six (6) images of your latest work done in the last two years. If images can also be seen on your website or social media please send details of those.
  2. your latest CV
  3. Write personal statement of no more than 700 words
    • introducing yourself, 
    • your practice as an artist, 
    • why you would like to do your selected course 
    • and how you believe it will benefit your practice as an artist.
  4. If shortlisted for our in-person interview, we may request two referees. See below
  5. Send any other information you believe will help in your application. This may include video presentations, details of any galleries, websites or social media sites that represent your work.
  6. Please remember to include your contact telephone or mobile number in your application email. We will need that if you are shortlisted for in-person interviews.

Please note should you be short list you may be asked to provide two references

  • Your 1st referee should be someone you have known for a while who can provide information on your practice
  • Your 2nd referee should be someone who can provide a character reference.
  • Note: Neither referee can be a family member.
