This eight week course aimed at people wanting to engage and learn from the collections in galleries around London whilst drawing directly from the objects in these collections. On the course we will work on improving (or further improving) your drawing skills and on gaining the confidence to draw in galleries and museums.

Galleries
Starting with two consecutive weekly visits to the National Gallery we will then visit the Wallace Collection, the Victoria and Albert and follow that up on week five and six with two sessions at Tate Britain, Sir John Soane museum and finish the course with a day at Tate Modern.
Each day will begin with a brief tour and discussion of the collection, before students are encouraged to work from objects that inspire them. As the day progresses your tutor will provide individually and as a group tips and insights into drawing out and about on location and specifically within a museum. At the end of the day we have a group crit where we will look through and discuss both the drawings you’ve made and the original artworks that they were made in response to.
Materials
Dry media, charcoal, fine liner pen, pencil, crayon, conte and any other media that does’t require drying or that can smudge.
The use of sketchbooks and loose sheets of paper is encouraged.

Archie Franks holds a post graduate diploma from The Royal Academy Schools, 2012, and a First-Class BA, Honours degree from City & Guilds London Art School, 2009. He is the recipient of various awards and honours including the Jerwood Painting Fellowship, 2016, the Sainsbury Scholarship in Painting, The British School at Rome 2013; Tooth Award 2012; Gordon Luton Award 2012; Richard Ford Award, 2011; and the Philip T Ribbon Award, 2011.
Recent solo exhibitions have been held at Salon London, 2017 and Welcome Screen, London 2015.
