Artist-tutors: Archie Franks and Sikelela Owens
Painting Personal Projects is a programme that aims is to give you an opportunity to develop your own work whilst receiving guidance and mentoring in a supportive community of artists. It is intended to increase confidence, creativity and a sense of direction; helping to provide strategies for establishing and growing a body of work. The artists on this programme are all practising and exhibiting artists who are working on their own projects and are here to help each student clarify and develop their short and long term goals. You will individually work on your own projects and as a group work on similar agreed goals. With this comes tutored classes, group discussions, crits and an End of Year Exhibition.

About the artists
Sikelela ‘Ziggy’ Owen
London born (1984) artist Sikelela, known to her friends and family as Ziggy, is a graduate of Chelsea College of Art and Design (2009) and the Royal Academy (2012). A multi-award winner, she is the recipient of The Elephant Lab residency award (2019), Dover Street Arts Club award (2011), Richard Ford Award (2010) and Prado Museum Travel and Drawing Award, Madrid Spain (2010) and Nichol Young Foundation Award (2009).
Sikelela work has been exhibited in the United Kingdom and abroad including solo exhibitions with James Freeman Gallery London (2019), ‘Love, Eat, Sleep, Repeat’ at HSBC Canada Place London (2017) and the NAM Project Milan ‘ People Everyday’ (2014). Her work is part of the collections of Robert Hiscox, London and HG Capital, London and she has been written about in various publications including, in 2014, the Thames and Hudson publication of 100 Painters of Tomorrow, in 2013, two publications were done by iBook 100 London Artists (Vol. 1) by Elizabeth Beecher Publishing and a-n.co.uk review ‘Young Gods’ and the 2011 ‘Arts’ by The Telegraph – Newspaper and Online News.

Archie Franks
Archie Franks holds a post graduate diploma from The Royal Academy Schools, 2012, and a First-Class BA, Honours degree from City & Guilds London Art School, 2009. He is the recipient of various awards and honours including the Jerwood Painting Fellowship, 2016, the Sainsbury Scholarship in Painting, The British School at Rome 2013; Tooth Award 2012; Gordon Luton Award 2012; Richard Ford Award, 2011; and the Philip T Ribbon Award, 2011.
Recent solo exhibitions have been held at Salon London, 2017 and Welcome Screen, London 2015.
