ABOUT THE COURSE

Weekend Class with Adrian Wiszniewski at the Essential School of Painting

Starting with a day’s visit to the Victoria and Albert Museum on the 9th of June , the aim of this 3 day course is to stimulate conversations both verbally and visually within the group. Questions thrown up will be as rich and varied as the group itself. Work in the studio will be dedicated to the development of ideas, and from these ideas articulate through paint a personal response to a question or questions that arise through your investigation and discourse.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Glasgow born Adrian Wiszniewski is a multi-faceted artist who has worked in different fields from Painting to Music. A graduate of  Glasgow School of Art and a highly dynamic artist and one of the founding members of the New Glasgow Boys a generation of painters whose success in figurative painting helped ignite the revival of figurative art in Scotland at a time when abstraction, Pop and Conceptual art dominated western art. He is this year’s artist curator for the Royal Scottish Academy’s annual exhibition.

About Andrew Wamae

Andrew Wamae is the Director and co-founder of the Essential School of Painting (ESOP). He has a deeply held belief in the power of art to transform lives and society, and a particular interest in exploring new models for art education beyond school; championing the twin ideals of excellence and affordability in a highly pressurised sector when university fees are soaring and student/ tutor contact time is at an all time low. Andrew is particularly keen to ensure that the visual arts continue to be supported and thrive well. A creative, innovative and visionary professional, Andrew, in conjunction with his co-founder Alison Harper, has transformed the Essential School of Painting from humble beginnings to an established institution holding from one-day to year-long courses and workshops for all levels of experience; from beginners to postgraduate and professional artists. He has managed to enlist the support of a long list of celebrated artists from multiple fields in the creative industry to teach or lecture at the school or in their studios.
