Term 1: (Term Completed)
Drawing and Painting from life: Strengthening your technical Toolbox – the path to creative freedom
Tutors: David Caldwell and Alison Harper
- Anatomy and structure of the head and face
- Understanding facial features.
- Body language nude and clothed; the art of composition.
- Materials and methods of oil painting
- Colour as tone and colour mixing
- Luminous flesh: techniques for painting skin
Term 2: (Limited Places)
Painting People: Ideas, photography and technology
Tutors: Alessandro Rajo and Alison Harper and Allan Ramsay
- Translating the photo into paint: how to ‘own’ the photo image
- Using Ipads and computers to manipulate images to aid composition, colour and development of ideas.
- Using photographs for group compositions
- Settings for portraits: using photographs for Interiors/exteriors
- Combining using photographs with working from the live model.
- Using film stills for inspiration
Term 3 (Limited Places)
Portraits and emotion: the power of storytelling through paint

- Expressive painting: the power of colour and mark-making
