Description
What can a painting do when it does not represent recognisable things?
When you stand in front of a surface, with a paint brush in your hand, you are standing in front of an arena for action and investigation. You have the potential to make a brand new event happen. Paint can be luscious whilst holding tension and friction, it can be sensory and immediate whilst telling the story of its construction. A painting is a surface with coloured liquid on it and yet it can translate inner worlds, invent visual language, express turmoil, ease, order or chaos, unravel identity, deconstruct experience and invite or banish the present, past or future. In this two-day course you will explore different ways of approaching this arena, enabling you to find your own unique way into abstract painting.
