As Moyna says, “The myth of Oil painting is that it is a laborious and technical process rather than a highly versatile medium which can be approached with freedom and spontaneity. On this course you will discover ways of working intuitively with oil paint; enjoying the process of wet-on-wet painting, working directly on prepared grounds. There will be an emphasis on a fluid approach to painting, mark-making with a variety of brushes and other tools, developing a palette particular to your subject and discovering how colour influences the sense of space and place and light in a painting. We will work on a series of sketches on prepared grounds, building confidence in paint handling and developing imaginative compositions for personal reference material such as notes, sketches and images from newspapers and magazines.”
There will be a slide presentation by Moyna demonstrating diverse approaches to the language of paint featuring artists as diverse as Picasso, Francis Bacon, Goya, Marlene Dumas and Edvard Munch.
Below Moyna talks about her work, graduate studies and what influences her work.
