Figure into Painting with Dan Coombs: 10-12 April 2024 (10-5pm)

Join us for an enriching three-day, in-studio course led by the artist Dan Coombs.

This immersive course aims empower you with the skills to convey emotion and captivate viewers through the intricate art of figure painting.

Course Highlights:
  • Explore a variety of poses and compositions, whether working with a single figure or dynamic arrangements.
  • Develop compelling narratives and compositions, unlocking the expressive potential of the human form.
  • Daily sessions working directly from the model, capturing the essence of emotion in your drawings.
  • Transform morning sketches into collages and studies, culminating in final-day masterpieces.

We will work from the model each morning and use these drawings to create collages and studies that will be made into paintings on the final day of the course. We will look at how the body carries and communicates emotions and unconscious thought, and also, study the way single or multiple figures can be arranged to create narratives. We will blur the division between figuration and abstraction to allow the possibilities for painting that arise from the figure to be as far reaching and varied as possible. Each student will be encouraged to follow their own intuition to give form to their own voice in working from the model.

This course explores creativity, self-expression, and the boundless possibilities inherent in the emotional depth of the figure. Dan Coombs will guide you through a transformative three-day journey, refining your technical skills while cultivating your personal artistic voice.
