Oil paint rewards patience, intuition and technical knowledge. This course starts at the beginning and builds step by step from colour-tones and mixing oils, to surfaces, brushes and mediums and everything in-between; what each one does and why it matters, then we are painting.

Working from still life set ups, from images and from memory, you will learn to mix colour and to construct a picture through contrasting tonal values, blocks of colour, line and texture. A great deal of emphasis falls on the tactile handling of paint, on what happens when it is pushed, scraped, thinned and layered.

The class is capped at twelve so that everyone gets the guidance they need.
