About the course
Join Georgia Mallin, an accomplished figurative artist, for this inspiring Introduction to Portraiture course. Over eight weeks, let Georgia guide you in the captivating world of portraiture as you learn how to capture the human face with confidence and creativity.
This course provides a structured and supportive environment to deepen your understanding of portraiture. Working with a live model throughout the course, you’ll develop essential skills and learn how to bring your portraits to life.
Portraiture is a deeply rewarding art form, allowing you to explore expression, emotion, and individuality. Georgia will guide you step by step through:
- The fundamental proportions of the face and head
- Techniques for building volume and depth using tonal values
- An introduction to colour theory, including colour choices for creating lifelike “skin tones”
- The process of transitioning from drawing to painting.
Held in our spacious and light-filled studio in Wood Green, this course offers a dynamic and engaging atmosphere to hone your skills alongside like-minded artists. We limit the number of participants to ensure that each student receives personalised attention and expert guidance as you progress.
Feel free to bring along your favourite brushes or paints, but don’t worry—with the exception of canvases, which you can purchase in the studio at a discounted rate, we’ve got all the art materials you’ll need covered. All you need to bring is your curiosity and enthusiasm—and we’ll take care of the rest.
About Georgia
Georgia is a figurative artist based in London. She trained in portraiture from direct observation at the Heatherley School of Fine Art and expanded her practice into imaginative contemporary painting at the Essential School of Painting. She is interested in storytelling, and in how imagination, memory and feeling can be the springboard for making images. She was the recipient of the Daphne Todd Portrait Prize at Heatherleys and was lucky to receive one of the ESOP Newman Young Artist Scholarships 2019/20. She has exhibited in group shows online and in London, including the ING Discerning Eye and the Self Portrait Prize.
