The Essential School of Painting End of Year Exhibitions 2023

It is that time of year when, after many months of hard work, we have the pleasure of inviting you to join us for our End of Year Exhibitions.

This year we have four exhibitions to present and you are warmly invited to the private view of each and every one them. Please note these will be held across our two usual venues, our studios in Wood Green and the Art Pavilion in Mile End Park, (detailed information is included below). Please feel free to come along to the Private views and to the exhibitions and yes bring your friends and family too. During our private views, you will have the opportunity to meet the artists in the show, view the artwork and have a drink or two. It’s a celebration and yes most of the work on display is available to buy.

There is a fantastic range of work to see. “Fell Down a Well” is the final exhibition of 10 artists graduating from the ESOP 2 year Advanced Painting post grad course. “Fell Down a Well as Well” is the Interim show of seven artists on the same course. Art Matters 1 and II is exhibiting the artists attending eight different year-long part-time courses.

We are delighted to welcome one and all to the exhibition “Fell Down a Well” that marks our inugural final year exhibition of the ESOP Advance Painting Course 2021-23. This exhibition of the 10 artists on the course showcases all the hard work that has gone into and that has been done by the students over the last two years.

‘Fell Down a Well as Well’ is the Interim show of our seven 1st year artists on the course 2022-24. It heralds the full potential of what this group of artists are capable of having just completed their 1st year on the course, and, as the exhibition name points out, the creative community that they together with the graduating year have built working together this academic year.

Words by the ESOP founders on the course

The ESOP Advanced Painting Course was several years in the planning. We had envisioned a full time MA level course dedicated to painting in which a small community of participating artists would each have their own studio space and consistent, varied and generous tutor contact time which would enable the tutors to get to know the students and vice versa. Teaching art, particularly at postgraduate level, must be tailored to the individual – so understanding the students and where their interests and strengths lie is essential. Regular, individual tutor contact time which provides space for ongoing discussions about intention, ideas, personal development is vital…
