ABOUT THE COURSE:
Take your art practise up a level or two! Join David Mach RA, a creative force of nature in a community of 12 artists exploring new territories in your own art practise. An incredible opportunity to be mentored in a small group for a year with an exhibition in June.
Art. It’s changed dramatically over the last couple of decades. The number of artists have increased dramatically too.
Arts reach? It seems further than ever and the wealth it creates is substantial. We’re big players now. Our operation is on an industrial scale and the effect of our creativity is significant.
We’re not just painters and sculptors, we’re actors and singers. We’re performers, we play in orchestras and bands. We write poetry, we deliver spoken word, we design, we make architecture. Our ideas take us into every sphere of life and every time we pick up a brush to paint, every time we install a sculpture, draw on a page, write a story, compose lyrics for a song a whole world prepares to transport us, frame us, write about us, sell us, promote us, display us, restore us, record us, build us, buy us and buy tickets to see us, hear us and watch us.
Whether you’re a painter, a sculptor, a print-maker, whatever your branch of creativity YOU are in an army of idea-mongers inspiring, generating and re-generating ideas for towns and cities, for businesses, for galleries and museums, for hospitals, for health for physical and spiritual well being. There is no length your creativity cannot, will not go to to reach all of those parts.
You can’t learn skills on this course but can enhance them. You can boost them, you can supercharge them and that’s what this course proposes to do, over the three terms….we will pour over ideas, we’ll share them, we will find new technologies, we will hone skills, beat out initiatives on anvils and explore the world we will invade with our ideas and push the boundaries of that world further with our art. On this course, these are the things we will pursue.
As an artist you need to stand out. You need to be noticed. You need to be sought out. You can do that with the power of your ideas. Your personal development and your abilities, your skills, your demands are all central to that. It’ll be my job to inspire that development, to get you armed to the teeth to enter that world of art and to thrive in it.

Course Structure
Note: See course timetable at bottom of page.
-
The details of this are-as much one to one, up close, personal tutelage as we all can manage and stand.
- Meetings with everyone on the course at the same time sharing and discussing ideas, bringing ideas of our own and of others to the table week by week.
- Personal development’s big on the agenda. We’ll find out who you are and what you’re capable of through all that one to one stuff and through discussion with the whole group.
- No topic will be taboo. We’ll find ourselves involved in sex, gender, politics, social issues and we’ll find out what art is. What it should be, what we want it to be, how we want it to be and where we want it to be and we want to make it with.
- I’d like sometimes to have everybody to my studio for giant group discussions, spend a whole day looking at what’s out there in art and architecture, in design, painting, in sculpture, in film, in food, stories, music, you name it. We can meet at mine, inform each other ridiculously of what the world is up to creatively, eat, drink and talk together. Play music later in the evening, watch a film. David Mach RA
