Part 1 – A Painter’s View

Castlerigg by Guy Allott
Oil on LInen

The way to learn about paintings is simply to look at them. Everything you need to know is there.Quite often, when looking at artwork both ancient and modern, we are distracted by the mythologising which comes with history and with fame. It is easy to lose sight of the artist’s view in an environment where so many opinions are held about art. These gallery tours are designed with the painter in mind, and will focus on how an artist sees and learns from painting. Tutor Guy Allott, who is an accomplished painter, aims to encourage the joy of looking at paintings which in turn inspires one’s own work.

Fee £200 ( inclusive of A3 sketch book)

Guy Allott

Over 4 weeks of this Gallery and Museum tour Guy will carefully choose works which we can look at in a practical sense. He will show us how artists had dialogue with fellow artists, how they painted, where it works and even dare we say – where it does not.
