How to draw mouths

In this video Alison talks about how to draw a naturalistic mouth and avoid the pitfalls of drawing or painting a flat mouth on a flat surface, instead drawing a mouth that has the sense of the roundness.
If you place you hand over your mouth you will feel it’s curves, bumps and ridges… a fullness in some areas and less so in others. How do we recreate this sense of this fullness on a flat surface?
