Using planes to describe volume
Established in 2004 we have over the years been involved in teaching Drawing and Painting. We have consistently advocated that the art of Drawing and Painting really is an art to be practised regardless of ones level of experience. Everyone has something to learn or share whether they are beginners, amateurs or professional artists. As our artistic director Alison Harper likes to say “We cannot let the art of drawing and painting disappear into theory, it is a practise, a practise that one dedicates oneself to.”

It is with this intention in mind that The Essential School of Painting was set up to provide high quality classes led by professional, established artists and the classes are accessible to everyone. We run small class sizes to bring the right level of attention to each student. Currently Art Schools offer very little in the way of technical guidance and intellectual support for the pursuit of Drawing and Painting. We aim to provide both and our classes often consist of the full range of students of varying experience from beginners to professional artists.
Our Studios located in Bethnal Green, London are well-lit and spacious. We provide our students with all the materials they require for the class. We remain available and encourage further interaction with our students after the course ends.
