Welcome To The Essential School Of Painting
“Every child is an artist, the problem is keeping them that way as they grow up.” Pablo Picasso, 1881-1973
We assume you are creative; everyone has the potential to be creative, all we do is help you rediscover that side of yourself. Do you remember how you drew freely as a child? What is stopping you doing that today? We believe everyone can draw, everyone can create. Our motto is”Animus ad creare”™ The courage to create
Established in 2004 we have over the years been involved in teaching drawing and painting. Everyone has something to learn or share whether they are beginners, amateurs or professional artists. As our artistic director Alison Harper says “We cannot let the art of drawing and painting disappear into theory, it is a practise, a practise we can dedicate ourselves to.”
It is with this intention in mind that The Essential School of Painting was set up, to provide high quality classes in Drawing and Painting. Classes that are led by professional, established artists and accessible to everyone. We hold small class sizes, maximum of 10 plus an assistant, to bring the right level of attention to each student. Currently Art Schools offer very little in the way of technical guidance and intellectual support for the pursuit of Drawing and Painting. We aim to provide both and by having a wide range of tutors we offer the possibility of learning a variety of different approaches to drawing and painting.
Our classes are held in a well-lit, spacious studio located in Bethnal Green, London. We provide our students with all the materials they will require for the class.
Our intention is to provide you with opportunities to develop your skill, to foster your creativity and encourage you to try out new things with the guidance of expert tutors. Most of our tutors do not teach in classes accessible to the general public. They are either teaching on B.A. and M.A. programmes or are full-time artists.
Come join us and enjoy generous and inspirational art classes where each and every student matters.
