Enjoy the wonderful effects of dry pastels on colour Fabriano Tiziano pastel paper.

This course provides an opportunity to learn and experiment with pastel techniques for drawing portraits.

We will explore techniques such as blending and layering with different colour harmonies on colour paper to achieve interesting effects, then moving on to working more expressively and imaginatively.

 

The class, of no more than 10 students, will have demonstrations, one on one and group tuition.

Alison Harper is an artist and the founder of The Essential School of Painting.

A graduate of Glasgow School of Art in the mid 1980s and one of “The Glasgow Girls” she played a part in the resurgence of figurative painting emerging at that time.

In 1993 she won a Commonwealth Scholarship to paint in India for two years returning to lecturer in Painting and Printmaking at Glasgow School of Art from 1995 – 2002.

Selected exhibitions include The National Portrait Gallery, the Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy, Leicester City Art Gallery, Stirling Museum, The Graphic Museum of Tokyo, The India Today Gallery, New Delhi. She is the recipient of many awards and prizes. She lives and works in London. She is included in Who’s Who in Art 2006, 2010 and Who’s Who of Women in the World 2011
