About This Course
Advanced Painting Personal Projects is a full-year, online studio programme for painters who are serious about the development of their work. Led by two painters of exceptional standing — Adrian Wiszniewski RSA and Rosanna Dean — the course provides the rigour, critical depth and structured mentorship that most painters can only access through expensive and time-consuming institutional study.
Each Monday is a full working day (10am to 5pm) spent in genuine, live dialogue with your tutors and your fellow participants. This is not a course of pre-recorded lectures or written feedback at monthly intervals. It is a working week, shared online, with the full presence of two accomplished practising artists who will engage directly and specifically with your work.
The course is designed for painters who already have a foundation in their practice and who want to break through to a new level; technically, conceptually, and in terms of the ambition and consistency of their output. Whether you are self-taught or formally trained, whether you live in London or elsewhere in the UK or further afield, this programme provides a professional-grade framework for the development of a serious personal practice.
Who This Course Is For
Advanced Painting Personal Projects is designed for painters who:
- Have prior experience and a developing practice they are ready to push further
- Want the sustained mentorship of two significant professional painters across a full year
- Value a flexible online format that removes geographic barriers without compromising on depth or contact time
- Are working on personal projects and want a rigorous structure of critique and support around that work
- Are ready to commit to full studio days each week and to work independently between sessions
The online format is not a compromise, it is a deliberate architecture that allows painters from across the UK and beyond to access a level of tuition that would otherwise require them to be in London. If you are unsure whether this course is right for you, please use the contact form at the bottom of this page.
What the Year Involves
- Three terms of ten weeks — full live online studio days, 10am to 5pm, every Monday
- Individual one-to-one tutor time and group critique woven into every session
- Presentations, discussions and demonstrations led by Adrian Wiszniewski RSA and Rosanna Dean
- Peer-to-peer exchange within a small, committed community of advanced painters
- Structured development of a personal project across the year, culminating in an end-of-year group exhibition
| Art Materials As an online course, students are responsible for providing their own art materials. A recommended materials list will be provided at enrolment.Over the course of the year, we encourage students to build their own studio palette. The recommended list is a practical guide to assembling and sourcing materials that serve your practice well beyond the course itself. |

About the Artist-Tutors

Adrian Wiszniewski RSA
Adrian is a Royal Scottish Academician and one of the most significant painters of the ‘Glasgow Boys’ generation, a group of artists who reshaped the direction of contemporary painting in Scotland and in the UK and further afield in the ’80s and ’90s. His work is held in major public and private collections across the world. Wiszniewski is a painter par excellence, of substantial ambition and rigorous practice, he brings to his teaching the full weight of a career spanning 5 decades spent at the forefront of contemporary painting.

Rosanna Dean
Rosanna holds an RCA MA in Painting (2019) and studied Old Master painting at the Angel Academy, Florence. She is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice addresses representations of the divine across cultures and traditions, combining Eastern and Western approaches to create work of contemporary spiritual depth.
The ESOP Pathway
Advanced Painting Personal Projects is designed for painters who have moved beyond the foundational stage and are ready to commit to the sustained development of a serious practice. Students who complete this course and want to deepen their engagement with in-studio work may wish to consider The Painting Year II. Those ready for the most intensive commitment to their painting should look at the ESOP Advanced Painting Course.
