Painting Thames River and Cityscape July 2015

Wednesday mid-day sessions of painting and drawing with master Landscape artist John Myer along the Thames in London. Take in summer scenes of the river, London with it’s iconic city-scape and the ever changing colours as the tide moves in and out and the light changes from morning to afternoon. No two days are the same as life on and along the river moves around you. An exceptional way to enjoy the summer.

All are welcome to join John and other fellow painters (both amateur and professional) painting in a group in little known locations off the beaten track along the Thames River.

Come along with the medium of your choice; we will provide you with an easel, stool and boards. You can also buy a materials pack with everything you need in the medium of your choice directly from us.

Wednesday Painting sessions with John Myers

The tradition of landscape painting is as alive as ever, and is one the best ways, not only to learn the basics, but to develop a pictorial language of your own. And what could be a better place to set up one’s easel and confront the great out doors, than along the Thames” John Myers 2015 at The Essential School of Painting

MORE ON THE COURSE:

The class will start along the river at King’s Stairs Gardens, not far from Bermondsey station, where there is huge choice of outstanding views. We will then gradually work our way toward a nearby canal giving us the opportunity to paint the river and London’s iconic city-scape from different positions.

Much emphasis will be placed on the handling of the paint and seeing the forms in relation to the spacial content of the painting. The student will learn to freely and decisively structure directly with paint, often with large directional brush strokes in an effort to capture the ever changing light, the movement in the sky and the shadows on the landscape.

Students will be provided with individual tutoring on the spot, and there will be a group “crit” at the end of each session, enabling each one to develop his or her individual painting insight. Much importance will be given to such pictorial qualities as movement, structure, luminosity, and spacial tension. All the technical difficulties of working with Oil, Acrylic and Water-colour will be addressed.
