This 12 February the new BBC One Show sees 10 new painters put through a series of challenges until one is ultimately crowned Britain’s best amateur artist.

The Big Painting Challenge is hosted by Mariella Frostrup and the Rev. Richard Coles and the series Art Consultant is our very own Artistic Director Alison Harper. Alison also worked on series 1 which aired in 2015. After a year’s break this show is back in a new format.

According to the BBC’s Head of Commissioning Mark Bell “The objective (of this show) is to engage people actively in the process of making art, this is an arts programme but absolutely designed to go beyond the core arts audience. It feels fresh, exciting and different” *
